Eight Town houses in Levenshulme, Manchester. Formerly a petrol station, thus a challenge to the developers and the contractors. The land needed extensive testing for contamination. This was carried out by a specialist contractor, who prepared samples of soil and a full report on the state of the site. As a result, there was a need to remove lots of the existing soil into a specialist disposal unit, before yet another test and refilling with new, tested soil.

Style Builders Limited work closely with CRL insurance, providing all new build properties with relevant buildings insurance valid for ten years after the completion. This provide the owners with a peace of mind in case of any structural issues. Style Builders will carry out any remedial work if the need arise.

While the excavations were carried out, it was discovered that there is a huge void under ground from the times of the petrol station. It was the fuel store or a tank if you prefer. This meant that the standard foundation that was in the construction plans was not enough. We had to chose between the traditional way of doing the foundation under two houses or use piling. The client have had both options presented to him with all pros and cons, as well as the costing. With the assistance of Structural Engineer and the Planning department at Manchester City Council, it was concluded that the piling option will be preferred. The project was delayed by three weeks due to these changes.

The small estate was constructed based on the latest designs, yet with traditional method. All floors have been done by joiners, using traditional beams, the roof structure was also done traditional way with the dormer bedrooms. Partitions were made using traditional wood instead of metal.

The houses on completion came with fully fitted kitchens and bathrooms. The project was completed right down to the last details. The landscaping originally was not included in the overall pricing, however it was added at a later stage.
